It’s that time again: back to school! Here’s a packing checklist of a few sustainable options for returning to college dorm living:
Personal Care Products
Shower Caddy: Ditch the plastic caddy and try a stainless steel or wooden one instead!
Bar Soap: Reduce your plastic use and opt for bar soap instead of bottled body wash.
Bamboo Toothbrush: Squeaky clean teeth and better for the planet.
Silk Floss: Glass bottle and pure silk floss.
Reusable Cotton Rounds: Less waste and so many cute patterns to choose from!
Safety Razor: Try out a sustainable metal razor. If this is intimidating, try a recycled plastic razor instead!
Nontoxic Personal Care Products & Makeup

Reusable Tumbler: Insulated stainless steel tumblers are great for walking around campus.
Reusable Straw: Metal or silicone straws are best for taking to dining halls.
Cloth Bags: Keep a bag or two in your backpack.
In the College Dorm Room
Glass Jars: Great for storage and drinking.
Reusable Utensils: Bring some that you can put in your backpack.
Wool Dryer Balls: Less toxic than dryer sheets and just as effective.
Sustainable Laundry Detergent: Choose one that doesn’t contain ingredients that are harmful to marine life.
Zero Waste Cleaning Supplies: Glass Spray Bottles, Wash Cloths, Vinegar, Baking Soda.
This packing checklist is by no means exhaustive, but I hope it helps you to be intentional and mindful of what you’re bringing back to school. Good luck packing and with your studies!
